I am extremely happy and I am liking my mission a lot

December 29, 2010

Well, it was nice talking to you guys this weekend.

This last week was probably one of the toughest in my mission. I mean we worked a lot but not many people were in their houses. A lot of people were travelling or just didn’t want our message. It was pretty hot these last few days too, but in the end it all worked out. I am feeling great now and I am working hard.

Sorry but this lan house that we use now didn’t work to send emails today. I am sorry there are a lot lan houses here in Brazil but the bad thing is that they lock the computer so you really can’t do much unless you find a lan house a little more free. So I really don’t know if I will be able to send you guys pictures. I guess we will just have to see.

Well, I am talking a little bit more English now. I find myself saying the word “like” a lot and that kind of stinks. I am really liking the Portuguese language. It is really pretty cool. I mean it is the 3rd most difficult language in the world. I still am not perfect but just about everyone can understand me.

I like Preston’s baptism suit. He has to bring that one into his mission and he will be a baptizing fool. He looks like a Disco guy. It is good to hear that the Kloey’s baptism went well and almost everyone was able to attend and have a good time. I wish I could have been there to see it but the pictures are good enough.

Well are you guys getting a lot of snow there? We have some investigators that watch the news there and they are saying the United States is getting killed by snow. I hope that you guys are all right there.

Well I am sorry I can’t send pictures, I took some sweet ones with my presents and my little Christmas tree. It turned out to be a pretty good Christmas. My comp liked his chocolate.

My comp is called Elder Boudrero. He is a pretty cool guy. He is a cowboy from Logan, Utah. He is a twin too. His brother is in Georgia serving his mission. It stinks to be his brother. I am just kidding. I really like elder Boudrero he is a giving person and has a good relationship with all the members. He has one more transfer than I do. He went to the field when I arrived in São Paulo. It is pretty interesting. I think I will like this transfer a lot.

Well, my family I love you guys a lot and I want you guys to know that I am extremely happy and I am liking my mission a lot. I cannot believe that it is almost half over.

I will try to send that email to you again.

I love all you guys and Erin wrote too.

Tchau!!!

Next week is Christmas. My first one in Brazil

Empathy? Compassion? What in the world is that???

I am just kidding… I am not so great with empathy, but I am feeling a lot more compassion for people and that is pretty cool. I like being moved by compassion to help someone.

Well my companion is still homesick. I don’t even know what to do to help him. I will just try to be patient and to help him too. I mean, I don’t really get homesick and stuff. I think Brazilians have a tougher time because the people here are a lot more loving. The kids don’t usually leave the house so early. Brazilians are a warmer people — a lot different than North Americans who are cold and rigid. I am learning quite a bit with them and that is pretty cool.

Well, my family, the work is going great here. We are teaching so many families. It is awesome. I am really blessed to be here in Cordeiro. I mean the members are helping a lot and all is good.

We taught a family about the word of wisdom yesterday. They had coffee and cigarettes in their house. It was cool we invited them to live this commandment of God. They took the coffee and dumped all the powder and stuff down the sink. They gave us their cigarettes too. It was cool. We are going to help them get married tomorrow too. It will be a pretty sweet thing to see happen. A really cool family. The wife is an inactive member and the husband is an investigator. The timing was just right I guess.

We are teaching some amazing families here. The only hard part was that we have to have a lot of patience because everyone has to marry legally. It is kind of annoying but it is a huge problem here in Brazil.

Well, next week is Christmas. My first one in Brazil. I am a little excited. Our president moved p-day to Christmas so that will be interesting. Next week we have Christmas and a mission conference and a lot of other stuff. It will be pretty interesting how things will all turn out.

I am pretty excited to be able to talk with you guys for a bit. I will send an email to you guys next week about the calls and stuff so don’t worry.  I might end up being transferred next week.  Christmas week will be crazy. I am not homesick and right now the weather is pretty good. It is not all that hot. I am really enjoying this holiday season. I still haven’t gotten my Christmas package. I hope it gets here before next Wednesday.

I am great, my comp is great. It is too bad that you guys are having so much luck with all the car accidents and stuff. I hope you guys didn’t pick up some bad karma doing something bad. Just keep your spirits up and drive a little more cautiously on the roads and everything will work out fine in the end. Preston´s Eagle is going good.  Kloey got a pillow pet. Wow… life is just great there in Oroville.

I hope that you guys have a great Christmas and that Kloey has a great baptism. I mean I am sure that it will be awesome. I will send her and my other brothers special Christmas cards. It will be cool.

Well, my family I love you all and I hope that you have great week before Christmas. Are you guys still in school? If you are good luck.

Don’t worry, the people are great here and I am drinking a lot of water. I am actually great health wise and I am getting stronger too… and more handsome also!   :-)

I am sending a picture of me making a call to my district, and also me in the forest doing a manly pose, and also my victory over a rat.

I love you all and I hope that you have a great pre-Christmas week! I know that mine will be full of Christ-related miracles. I love you all. Don’t forget to read and pray a lot. Merry Christmas and Tchau!!

I like the heat but it really doesn’t feel like Christmas

December 8, 2010

Our week was great!!!

What is up with you guys and car problems this Christmas? I mean, really one accident thing is acceptable, but three or four is just a little crazy. I mean really what is up with that! Quitting driving isn’t that hard I mean I quit driving. I just walk everywhere. I will walk everywhere for two years. It isn’t that tough.

That is great that you guys are enjoying the weather up there in Oroville. Little ol’ Oroville. It is funny when I describe to people that I lived in a town with only 2000 people. They start to laugh — it is great.

Here in Cordeiropolis it is pretty hot. I guess this is one of the milder winters here. I mean up until now we have only had a temp. of 95 and usually it can get a lot hotter. I guess we will just have to see when summer hits hard here in a bit.

I like the heat but it really doesn’t feel like Christmas. I mean really, it is 95 degrees outside. How can Santa work in this type of weather? I mean really, it is impossible but, oh well. I will try to hang out with some members and investigators this Christmas and it will all be good.

Preston is getting his Eagle project done, that is pretty sweet. He will end up getting the sweet Eagle ring too. That will be awesome. It is funny how they compete. I don’t know why they do. I mean there isn’t any competition. But oh well, at least he is motivated to do a good thing. hahaha…

Well, it is two weeks until Christmas. Can you believe that? 2 weeks. Two weeks and I will pass my first Christmas here in Brazil. That is a weird thought. Don’t worry I will wait to open the Christmas presents on Christmas.

But what is going on down here?… Lots of stuff… people are accepting us really well. We found another great couple and some other good ones. The work is going really well. We are working a lot with less active members that have a desire to go back to the church and whose kids or wife or husband aren’t all members. It is really going great here. I have a pretty awesome set-up going on. We are teaching a lot and we are also finding a lot of people to baptize. Unfortunately, we have to be a little patient because many of them aren’t married. But that is OK, I have patience, hope, and faith.

Well my comp is still going… he thinks a lot about his house and also his girlfriend. I never had that problem so I don’t know exactly how to help him. I mean, I only had problems with the language in the beginning and I got over that quickly and miraculously. I am just being patient with him and loving him trying to be his friend. He is a body builder. He is really funny I won’t tell you why but he reminds me of an ape. I call him Kong.

Kloey will be baptized!!! I hope that all goes well. It will be pretty sweet. I won’t lie, I want to be there to baptize her, but oh well… You will just have to take lots of pictures. Good luck with that. I wrote a letter to Kloey, but I will write a special email to her too.

Well, my house is really the back part of a member’s house. They are pretty cool members. They give us food sometimes. It is really simple and really small. I mean it isn’t anything special. When I arrived there it was a year more or less that no one lived there. It was really dirty, but now it sparkles with cleanliness.

Our days here in Cordeiro are like any other area. They are way better than in Rio Claro. But Rio Claro is already over so I don’t even need to talk about that any more.

Andy sent me an email with a picture. He is really fat or at least he looks fat in the photo.

I was thinking and I have a strange craving for hot Cheetos. They have Cheetos here in Brazil but now hot Cheetos. I never thought about that before.

Well my beloved family, I love you guys. Maybe I have forgotten everything about home but I still love you guys. Well don’t forget there is no way to receive God’s blessing without putting His teachings in practice. Remember to read, but after reading, put the word to the test.

I love you all and I hope you all have a great Week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tchau!

Happy Birthday Kloey!!!

Do you remember your older brother Isaac? I sure hope so.

How are you feeling as an 8 year old?  Are you liking school and making a lot of friend and getting good grades?

I love you very, very much and I sent a cool letter to you that will arrive shortly. I love you very, very much.

I like Brazil. You can tell all your friends that Brazil is really, really cool too.

Kloey, I will to talk to you on Christmas OK? I hope your baptism is really beautiful too!

Your older brother,

Elder Isaac Iverson

I have never wanted a little cold so much in my life

December 1, 2010

Well, you will have to tell Kloey a happy birthday for me since I am physically incapable.

That is cool — on the 30th we baptized a girl too. Here in Cordeiro there is a family that has raised a kid from infancy in the church and the mother asked us to baptize the little girl. She turned eight recently and we ended up baptizing her yesterday. It is nice to see a little girl enter the right way. It was a really cool night. The Branch here was all excited and everyone likes us here.

I really like Cordeiro. It is a cool place and I am having amazing experiences here. I mean the things that I am learning are great the families that we are teaching are too.

It really was a good week. We just worked and worked and everything will work out this week. We had a baptism yesterday and I think that next week we will have a baptism too. We are preparing a family that I hope we can baptize next week.

I like Cordeiro. It is a really tranquil city. It has 20,000 people but it really doesn’t feel like that. I mean, I feel like I am in Oroville sometimes, it is a little strange. I like the people here — it is a cool tight knit branch. It is just cool.

That is interesting that you almost got in a wreck two times in the last week. You need to be more careful. I hate icy roads. Here in Brazil there isn’t any ice. Nope we don’t have ice here. It never snows and it just gets really hot. Sunday it was 95 degrees out without a breeze and with a hot Brazilian sun shining down without mercy.

I think it was the hardest moment in my mission. I had just eaten lunch and we were walking to an appointment 30 minutes away. I never felt so tempted to just sit down in my life. It was terrible! But I overcame. I made it to that neighborhood and I taught that family. It all worked out in the end. I have never wanted a little cold so much in my life. I am going to be burned to a crisp before these two years are up.

Kloey is 8! That is a pretty strange thought. I mean 8 and then 10 and then 12 and then 16 and then 18 and then 20… it is weird how fast time flies. I really I can’t even imagine how fast it goes by. I will have reached the first half of my mission in a little bit. It is hard to believe.

Did Kloey have a party this week? If She did I would like a few pictures. I have forgotten what you guys look like. It is kind of weird. I mean I have forgotten what you guys sound like. It is really really strange. I have forgotten what is like to use regular clothes and not be a missionary. It is strange. Really weird. But I

Well, mother, I didn’t eat cake I bought some chocolates and ate a pepperoni pizza which is kind of expensive here. It was good. Really good.

As for the picture without the thumbs up, I don’t even know if I will be able to do it. I am just a thumb-up sort of guy now. When someone pulls out a camera I just put on a cheesy smile and my thumb goes up like a strange animal like instinct. But I will try so that you can have a sweet photo of your ever-so-good-looking son. I got a new haircut on my birthday too. And it is actually a good one. I am pretty snazzy now.

Well, my family, I am pretty good. I am happy and I am loving my mission. I am learning a lot and I am improving everyday.

I am a certain that what I am doing is right and the when we read and pray God blesses us with light and truth that slowly changes our very souls imprinting Christ upon our hearts.

I love you all and I hope that you have a great week. Don’t slip on the ice and always remember to read and do family home evenings. Write me too. Tell Erin and Taurie that I want a letter. I haven’t gotten written letter from them still.

I love you all! Goodbye for now!!!
