This week in Brazil…

March 23, 2010
Hey Mom and Dad and whoever else reads this email,
Life is going good here in Brazil. This week was pretty normal as far as learning goes but on Friday (sexta-fiera) the 19 we went proselyting for the first time. That was interesting. Kinda cool though. They just kinda gave us 4 Books of Mormons some cards with the information services number and then threw us out in the street. It was kinda scary. Considering we didn´t even know Portuguese yet. It was good though. My companion and i just went out there and started talking to people. The first couple of people we talked to was awkward but it got a lot better as the day progressed. We talked to just about everyone. We gave away all of our cards and Books of Mormon. Who knows if they understood us or not. I hope they did. I also committed everyone to either read and pray or call and receive. So i felt pretty good about that. I know it could have been better though. I did learn what i need to work on. First of all we should never back people up into walls they get kinda scared. :) Second don´t try to talk to Ministers of other churches they tend not to like LDS missionaries. Third Brazilian people talk extremely quickly. we talked to this one man for like fifteen minutes and i have no idea what he said. The fourth thing that i learned was that just about all Brazilian people believe in god. That will make may work much easier as a missionary. It was good and hard but i definitely learned a lot in those 3 hours of proselyting.
Honestly other than that this week was pretty boring we just went to class and taught lessons and stuff. I am getting a little anxious to get out of here but i am holding out pretty good whenever i think of how much i have left to learn. I heard from my friends this week too and that was sweet. Have you sent any emails to me? Because if you have i have not been receiving them.
My time is almost done so i have to say that i love you all and i hope that this week goes great for all of you. It was really sad to hear about the situation with Eric but it was great to hear about all the work that is going down in little old oroville. I love you all and make sure your doing family scripture study make sure Preston, Colton, Kloey, and all the other family members know how much i love them and tell Preston to enjoy the trip, Colton to run hard, and Kloey to Keep on being amazing. Have fun this week.

The Temple is amazing!

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

What a week. Ok honestly it really wasn´t much different than any other it just felt extremely long. you know honestly nothing to terribly interesting happened this week it was just regular. We did have a pretty cool teaching experience on Saturday i think. My companion and i had to teach our teacher who was acting like an atheist man. The lesson i gave was pretty simple but i could really feel the spirit when i bore my testimony. I eventually asked my companion to pray and he had no idea what was going on so he didn´t ask for the right things it was just an ordinary prayer. The lesson ended after that. our teacher said that we could have converted him if we would have asked for the right things in the prayer but since we didn´t we failed. He commended us on getting so close though. things like that will get better when we learn the language so i am not too worried.

we went to the temple again today and that was of course pretty amazing like usual. Some interesting things that happened this week as far as food goes was when i got to try out fried bananas. Those are amazing. We also tried corn popsicles. that was weird. i really didn´t like it much. We also had hamburgers the other day that was amazing. I really miss north American food. It is not much fun having the food that you are used to taken away in a single night.
Well as far as those questions that you have go my schedule is pretty much the same everyday. I wake up at six, i have breakfast at seven, at seven thirty i have personal study for an hour after that hour i have a class until lunch. At 1:00 i have gym and then at 2:30 we have comp study. After comp study we have Missionary directed time at 3:30. at 4:30 we have dinner and at 5:30 we have class until 9:00 at night. We then plan till snack time at 9:30. Snack time is the best time of the day. they have the most amazing chocolate milk in the world there. That is pretty much the schedule i follow except on Tuesdays we have p-day and a devotional at night. The devotionals are not as good here. They tend to just be a conversion story of someone and then a testimony. i just don´t get as much out of them as i did in Provo. Oh well i guess it might also be because they have to translate everything either to English or Portuguese depending on the speaker. its just not the same.
Do you remember Keagen Christensen from Grandview? well i just met him the other day here. How crazy is that its been like 10 years and we are both serving in Brazil. its awesome eventually i will get a chance to talk to him to see how he has been doing. i could not even believe it when it happened.
I got that missionary ties letter that you sent. it was so nice to get mail again. How much does that cost anyways? that news about Preston is pretty cool too bad about Colton though. i hope he gets well soon. i don´t have it on me so i don´t remember everything that was written but it was so nice to be able to hear from my family again. Feel free to put any of this email on my blog.
I wrote a letter to my friends finally i think i will mail it off here pretty quick hopefully they will write back.
you know this week i was feeling pretty down. But on Sunday everything got better so i am doing good now and i am determined to make this week better than the last. i think that i need to take some money out of the bank so i don´t know how much i need so if you could tell me how much is in there in the next letter or whatever that would be great. i am skipping around a lot. i think it is because i am tired. Actually i probably don´t need money this week but i am sure that i will need some soon.
last thing, my most spiritual experience. It was in Provo. we were teaching a lesson and we finished and the teacher said we did a great job but he felt that we were holding back a little. so he left and then we made a new plan. it ended up that we just prayed and then bore our testimonies about things that we felt he needed. it was amazing it felt like the room was drenched with the spirit. it filled me with pure happiness. i loved it. since then i haven´t felt that way again but i know that i will when i am out in the field and i cannot wait.
I love you My family. Make sure that you keep up on you scriptures and stuff it helps amazingly when you read and pray continually. I will write you again next week. Make sure you tell me how things are going up in oroville i love hearing from you. Till next week i love you all and i will talk to soon. Make sure you give everyone my email address.

Brasil..

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Hey mom how is life going up in Oroville? What about the rest of my family? Well things are going just fine down here in the southern hemisphere. It is crazy hot today!
Today was a good day so far. This morning we got to go to the Sao Paulo Temple which is so beautiful. It had amazing stained glass panels in it and the outside was so lush and green with a very large and pretty fountain. I enjoyed that a lot. The ride through town was not as crazy either. that first ride here was insane! People just kinda do whatever they want in the roads here it is pretty funny and kinda scary. I have to admit that i would never want to drive here as of now.
I love it  here though the weather is nice all the time. It so much better than being cold all the time like up in oroville. It was kinda hard getting used to the humidity here in the first place but i am getting used to it no problem. The food here at the CTM is awesome. It is a little boring but its always fresh. We have a meat dish, a chicken dish, and beans and rice for every meal. I am a big fan of beans and rice.
I haven`t heard anything from my family in a while. I don´t know if you have recieved my welcoming email or my first letter since i have been here but i think the only way that i will be able to communicate with you on a regular basis will be to email. There is this intersesting thing called missionary ties that you will be able to get a hold of me with though. I don´t know the cost and really what it entails but it seem like a good deal. You should get my invitation for you to try it out in the next little while. All the invitation is, is a little note that tells you to check out missionaryties.com. By filling it out i got a free cookie and a free hour of internet. It was a good deal.
Now onto more important things. I like Brasil better that Provo as far as climate goes but in a spiritual sense the MTC in Provo wins out by far. Here it just seems so much more relaxed and different just different. I am not really sure if i like it as much as the Provo MTC yet. Hopefully i can learn to be as spiritual here as i am there. I just think Provo had a more spiritual emphasis while here has a more liguistical emphasis. The language learning here is amazing i am picking things up quickly and i know it will help me like crazy in the language department by being here but i don´t feel like i am growing as much spiritually. I don´t know why. We do have a fireside tonight though that should be pretty good..     Well i kinda forgot all the stuff that i have written so far but i think it is about time for me to go. I love Brasil. Oh yeah i met a man who works here that knows Bret from his mission. If you want you can ask him about Irmão Peçanha that should be fun. He actually showed me a picture of Bret from his mission it was pretty cool.
I don´t know if i will send any letters this week but if i do you will probably get them next month or something. Letters take about two to three weeks. Packages can take months. That reminds me if you send any packages send them in the U.S. postal service pouch. If you don´t it could cost me a ton of money. My letter that you should be getting explains about that though.
Well i love you Mom, Dad, Preston, Colton, and Of course Kloey. I will talk to you soon. Make sure you email me back with any questions that you have and the latest update on what is going on in Oroville. I will email you again next week. Ate logo (till later) i love you. Bye

      Love,
      Elder Isaac Iverson

Minha Familia

Feb. 16, 2010

Minha Familia,

How is it goin’ up there in good ol’ Oroville? You guys winning basketball games and having a good time without me? I am surviving down here in the MTC. I can’t say that I love it yet but I am learning the stuff I need to and I am trying to keep a good mental out look.

The food here is good. I eat a lot and do a lot of walking and studying. Every morning I have gym and I run a mile and pay a little basketball with some random Elders. It is insane how many Elders there are here.

I have companheiros Elder Fa e Elder Smith. If you got my last letter then you know that Elder Fa is a large Tongan man and Elder Smith is a farm boy from Nevada. He went to a school that is smaller than Oroville. A little more info about Elder Fa, he is a ukulele teacher who loves rugby and is from Mesa. He is the 7th of 9 kids and has a huge extended family.Elder Smith worked in a power line company during the summer he is a baby of 7 and he is good at making cabinets. His graduating class only had 26 kids.

I am trying to get along with them. Trying to be patient and loving, or something like that. :) I think that it is important to just try to chill out and learn as much as you can while you are here.

I got a letter from Sister Glanzer which was nice and I also got a package from Aunt Shanna. I don’t know what is in it yet because I was told to read letters after 9:30, so I have a surprise waiting.

Have you got my blog set up yet? Just let me know when so I can write letters to my blogs people. Hey I was wondering if you could get my buddies addresses. For now I just need Elder Glanzer, Randy, Bryce, David and Andrew. I think that is it for now. Oh yeah I can’t remember all the addresses so if you could send me all of our families email it would be great. I want to write to them.

Hey when you get my Ipod can  you put some instrumental, classical, inspirational, and some Mo tab. Try to buy the least amount possible. Go through all of our music if possible.

Well I have to go eat and finish up a five minute talk, which we have to do every week. So I will write you all again next Friday. I love getting mail so keep it coming. I will talk to you again soon and don’t worry I will probably love everything about the MTC in no time. Also I just want to let you know that I don’t miss much right now. Just you guys. I don’t miss video games or anything else really. Also I am not homesick, and I haven’t ruined any of my clothes (dad). I did forget to put detergent in with my first load of laundry though.

Make sure Kloey, Colton and Preston and of course both Mom and Dad, know that I love them.

Love, Elder Iverson

p.s. Tell Preston to find my memory card. I promise I won’t forget about it.  :)

Dear Family                                                                  Feb. 12, 2010

Well I made it.  I know that I will love it here soon. I have some pretty awesome companions. One Large Tongan man named Elder Fa, from Mesa Ariz. and Elder Smith, a farm boy from Nevada.  They are cool guys nice and normal. The food here is great and once I get used to the rigorous schedule I know everything will be great. I have to make this brief because our Branch President said so. I will write you all on Saturday. I love you guys a lot.

Love,

Elder Iverson
